Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace/Brainerd Lakes United Environmentalists September, 2024, Meeting Agenda The monthly BACP/BLUE meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024 in the southwest quadrant of Gregory Park. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held across the Street in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 415 Juniper Street, Brainerd, MN. The departure from our normal meeting time/day is due to the Labor Day Holiday, member vacation schedules, and our waning allotment of daylight. Old Business Report on the Saturday August 17 th demonstration supporting the sovereignty of the elections in Venezuela.      Attended by 6 people with some positive reactions.      The Free Palestine on Septemer 7th was attended by 5 members and 2 new supporters came. All participants were on the corner and made a good showing. Continued discussion on staffing the BACP/BLUE table at Brainerd’s Pride in the Park festival on Saturday, September 14 th (from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.) in Gregory Park. Dean, Judy and Richard will set up. Richard will bring materials left over from the fair. Judy and Richard will attend the table from 10 to 12 noon.            Larry and Trish will cover from 12 noon until 2 p.m.  Dean and Larry will cover from 2-4 p.m.  Dean will tear down and take leftover items home with him. Continued discussion on scheduling showings of “Where Olive Trees Weep” in local venues. The members present support this activity. Trish volunteered to spearhead the activity and will recruit Pat  to help her. She will contact the group if she needs any help and will keep us updated. New Business Set time/dates/locations for October BACP/BLUE meeting and events.      Next meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Gregory Park on Monday, October 7th. Starting in November, meetings will be via Zoom.      We will continue with monthly Free Palestine vigils on the 1st Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. Vigils will take place on the corner of 371 and 210 and the October vigil will be on the 5th. Report/Discussion of Local/World news relevant to BACP/BLUE missions.      Larry updated the attendees on news about Venezuela which contradicts mainstream media.       Trish has done research for a presentation she gave on climate change. She shared her concern about the melting of the permafrost in the arctic, leading to the release of lots of methane.   Identify possible opportunities for future BACP/BLUE actions.        We will progress with the Palestinian film, Where the Olive Trees Weep.         It was also suggested that Trish might put her information on climate change in a slide show form and present it to an audience.  Treasure’s Report.       Richard reported that the treasury contains $903.89. Next purchase will be a tarp to cover the parade float and protect it from inclement weather.
